the Toronto Port Authority Extends Airport Ferry Service to Toronto Island Due to Suspension of City Ferry Service Caused by Ice

20/02/2015

Toronto (February 20, 2015) – With the City of Toronto’s ferry service between Queen’s Quay and Ward’s Island suspended until further notice due to ice in Toronto’s Harbour, the Toronto Port Authority will temporarily extend its Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport ferry service as a courtesy to visitors and residents of Toronto Island requiring transportation to and from the mainland.

Recognizing the challenges inherent in a temporary suspension of the City’s ferry service, the Toronto Port Authority will waive normal fees and provide passage on the airport ferry free of charge to school groups, community organizations, visitors and others who require transportation of vehicles across the Western Channel during this time. Regular vehicle charges will apply to commercial vehicles.

the Toronto Port Authority will provide escorted access to vehicles across Billy Bishop Airport’s runways at intervals throughout the day. Staff will work with the airport’s partners and airlines to ensure the safe passage of vehicles and minimize any interference with the airport’s regular operations.
